Barack Obama finally spoke out against the Iranian regime last night after two diplomats were ordered to be expelled.
In what has been described as a tit for tat response to the expulsion of two British diplomats in Tehran Britain has in turn ordered the expulsion of two Iranian diplomats. News of the expulsions broke as Barack Obama for the first time as US policy in Iran swings; he has condemned the violence in Iran, saying the international community was "appalled and outraged" by Tehran's crackdown on protesters. Western relations with Iran are now at a new low, as Obama stated that the Iranian regime “threats, beatings and imprisonments” must not be allowed to continue. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has called for an end to the protests and protesters have been given stark warnings although unrest amongst the masses seems to grow by the day especially amongst the young. As part of the breakdown in law and order in the aftermath of the elections Iranian opposition leader Mirhossein Mousavi is under 24-hour guard by secret police and is currently unable to speak freely in public. It has been well documented since the Iranian elections that there was a meeting between Mousavi and Ayatollah Khamanei although nothing came of it. Mousavi had previuosly stated how an Iran run by him would invest heavily and focus upon improving the economy rather that the creation on nucleuar weapons and the power of Iran.
